A St. Petersburg woman was killed Wednesday night after being struck by two cars while on her bicycle.

Karen Plunkett, 42, was killed while trying to cross 58th Avenue

North at 28th Street North in the Lealman area of St. Petersburg.

The driver of the first car that collided with Plunkett stopped to help but while she was on the ground on 58th Avenue, another car struck and killed her, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

That driver, who authorities said was Shannon Whitfield of Kenneth City, left the scene.
