PINELLAS COUNTY (Bay News 9) -- Pinellas County Administrator Steve Spratt resigned Tuesday, making a statement at the end of the workshop meeting.
Saying he has enjoyed working with the commission during his six years of employment, Spratt was thanked by the commissioners and lauded for his service.
Spratt's resignation is related to the Jim Smith property sale, where county attorney Susan Churuti represented the county and Smith in a deal that overinflated the value of a piece of property Smith sold to the county.
A grand jury investigated the matter, and though no one was found guilty of breaking any laws, the grand jury blasted the county for the way it was handled.
Commissioners leveled some of that criticism toward Spratt, saying he should have known what was going on and done something before the sale went through.
Churuti was fired as a result of the investigation.
Spratt's resignation is effective Sept. 30.
