CNN's Piers Morgan said he has spoken to Casey Anthony.
On Tuesday's airing of "Piers Morgan Tonight," the host discussed a phone conversation he said he had with Casey, saying she opened up more than she ever has before, answering questions about her daughter, Caylee, and addressing rumors about a recent weight gain.
Morgan said Casey reached out to him, saying: "Obviously, I didn't kill my daughter."
"She said to me, 'The caricature of me that is out there, it couldn't be further from the truth,'" he Tuesday night said as he discussed his talk with Casey on "Piers Morgan Tonight."
It's been almost one year since Casey Anthony was acquitted of her daughter's murder, and Tuesday's interview marked the first time she has commented publically about what happened to her.
Morgan said when he asked Casey what she was most self-critical about, she told him:
"Not being honest. I didn't trust law enforcement. I didn't give them the benefit of the doubt which is part of the reason they didn't give me the benefit of the doubt."
Casey also talked about the jailhouse video recordings of her visits with her family, saying:
"I've looked back at some of the interviews in the way that I've come across. It looks absolutely horrible and I'm ashamed in many ways of the person that I was."
What life is like now for Casey Anthony
Casey Anthony's attorney, Cheney Mason, also appeared Tuesday on "Piers Morgan Tonight," saying even though she is free, she is living in what he called "a different kind of prison."
Morgan also asked him if Casey would like to be a mother again in the future.
"She probably would," said Mason. "It would take a long time for her to be accepted into a new world, a new life -- to take that risk, I think. She certainly was very committed to and loved her daughter. Like this one letter said, the photographs, there's tens of thousands of photographs. That child was a photographed child by the family, all of them with Casey in a very loving relationship, and playing and so forth."
As for what Casey is doing now, Mason said she is currently reading the popular book series "The Hunger Games," and watching television shows, but not the news.
Casey also dispelled some rumors in her interview with Morgan, saying was not moving to Costa Rica, has not made "a gazillion dollars" by selling her story, and does not currently weigh 500 pounds.
"When the time comes, she will have her story to tell," he said.
Mason added she likely barely weighs 120 pounds.
"I'm 26 years old, and I've been through hell," Casey told Piers Morgan.
Tuesday's interview came just one day after Mason filed an appeal on Casey Anthony's convictions for lying to law enforcement.
Mason argued she should have only been charged with one count instead of four, claiming the multiple counts were double jeopardy, since each count stemmed from the same, single offense.
