Investigators are looking into the death of a 4-month-old baby girl after officers were called to a West Melbourne apartment complex Monday morning.

The child died Sunday night at the hospital.

Police were called to the San Paulo Apartments off Dairy Road late Sunday night after neighbors reported hearing banging inside one of the apartments.

Investigators aren't saying much about what happened -- only that the baby died after being found unresponsive while in the care of the mother's boyfriend.

The child was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, then later Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital in Orlando where she died.

Neighbors said they heard fighting inside the apartment nearly every day.

Olga Torres, who lives directly across the courtyard, said she was watching TV around 9 p.m. Sunday when she heard banging on the walls.

She woke up Monday morning to find investigators inside the apartment and crime scene techs pouring over the area.

“It sounded more like a hammer, somebody hammering something against the wall. But they fight all the time,” said Torres.

Along with West Melbourne police, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit was handling the case.

No arrests have been made.

Police have not released any additional details of what led to the child's death.
