Two boating crashes in Pinellas County have left several people injured as the boaters took to the water for the Memorial Day weekend Sunday.

Three people were taken to local hospitals and treated for minor injuries after a recreational boat crashed into the rock jetty at Clearwater pass early Sunday, authorities said.

Nine people were aboard the 21-foot boat, which was going about 20 mph when it crashed into the rocks in the 3 a.m. incident. The group had come from St. Pete Beach.

A Florida Fish and Wildlife official said the boat operator passed an alcohol-detection test but was cited for failure to maintain a proper lookout.
