A Clearwater girl fought to stay alive after she was stabbed more than two dozen times.

Investigators said it was at the hands of her enraged ex-boyfriend.

She’s now walking, talking and back to living her life though.

Three months ago, Melissa Dohme was unrecognizable, clinging to life.

“I know it’s a miracle that I am still here,” said Melissa Dohme, stabbing survivor.

Dohme was stabbed 30 times in the face, head, and neck.

Detectives said her ex-boyfriend came after her.

“Even the trauma doctor in his notes wrote, nothing short of miraculous.”

Dohme now breathes the fresh air, and takes in the beautiful sights of her hometown.

All things that seemed impossible after flat lining four times, suffering a stroke, and losing more blood than most of us can imagine.

“They said the one in my neck almost killed me.”

For three weeks following the attack Dohme continued the fight for her life from her hospital bed.

“I just felt that if I didn’t get back on my track that I always knew that he was winning, and I wasn’t going to let him win, I wasn’t going to let him defeat me.”

In just four weeks, Dohme was back at St. Petersburg College in Clearwater continuing the pursuit of her dream even after all she had been through.

“Every time I accomplish something, I’m at work, I’m a school, I’m volunteering, I just you know it’s my life, no one is going to take it from me.”

Thanks to an unbelievable recovery Dohme’s life is back on track.

She continues to work toward becoming a nurse, and even more importantly she’s enjoying her life again, now more than ever.

“I’ve never loved life so much, I’ve never been so appreciative, I really appreciate everyday.”

Hundreds of people are following Dohme’s recovery on her “Support Melissa” Facebook page.

She is close to enrolling at USF so she can work toward becoming a neo-natal nurse.

As for her accused attacker, Robert Lee Burton Junior, he is awaiting trial on an attempted murder charge.
