Pinellas Conty's Academic Team took first place at the statewide Commissioner's Academic Challenge last week.

The competition, in its 28th year, was held last Thursday through Saturday at the convention center of the Contemporary Resort at Walt Disney World.

Pinellas competed in the Division 1 section of the competition. The all-star team members were chosen from school teams at the end of the district-wide season.

Competing for the team were seniors Solomon Howard, 17, Eric Mulligan, 17, and junior Nicholas Walker, 16, from the the International Baccalaureate program at St. Petersburg High; junior Aadith Moorthy, 16, from the IB program at Palm Harbor University High School; junior Caleb Eary, 17, from Northeast High School; and senior Jonathen Settle, 18, from Seminole High School.

The team's coaches were teachers Tracey Keim from St. Petersburg High and Britt Moseley from Seminole High.
