An Anna Maria Island woman is hoping one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

Caryn Hodge heads up the Picture Them Adopted organization, a group of photographers and animal handlers who visit the county shelters to take marketable pictures of the shelter pets.

She is helping organize a rummage sale to benefit animals this weekend. Hodge has collected items over the last three months and hopes the yard sale is a success.

The sale will take place Friday, Oct. 3 through Sunday, Oct. 5. It will benefit several area animal rescue groups, including: Moonracer No Kill Animal Rescue, Forget Me Not Animal Rescue, Gulf Shore Animal League, which rescues cats and kittens and helps with TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release) of feral cats, and Animal Network to help treat heartworm positive dogs.

Hodge is hoping to raise at least $5,000 to distribute to the rescue groups.

In addition to the yard sale, there will also be animals up for adoption at the sale.

The sale will be located at 1135 Montezuma Drive, Palma Sola Park in Bradenton off of Palma Sola Boulevard.

“In the past year, we have had challenges with the relationship between Manatee County Animal Services and the rescue community,” said Hodge. “With new leadership at the helm of MCAS, there is renewed excitement to move forward in a positive and productive direction. Rummage for Rescues is the result of many entities coming together for the common goal of finding homeless pets their forever homes.

“The community has been so generous with donations, rescues are working together to share resources and local businesses, like Hideaway Storage, have partnered with us proving that many still believe Manatee County can become a No Kill community.”
