The Bay area is slowly moving toward a break from the wet weather.

There is a 40 percent chance of rain Wednesday, but rain chances are lessening each day ahead of a weekend that likely will see a break from the showers and morning lows in the 60s, according to Bay News 9 meteorologist Juli Marquez.

"Scattered showers and thunderstorms will pop up today and move to the east," Marquez said.

Today's showers continue the deluge that we saw during September. Rainfall totals for the month topped 10 inches in Bradenton (10.53), Lakeland (12.99), St. Petersburg (13.34) and Tarpon Springs (14.78). Tampa's total was 9.57 inches.

Skies will be partly cloudy with more scattered showers and storms likely this afternoon.

Rain chances are 30 percent Thursday and Friday.

Bay area residents will feel a difference by Sunday after a cold front, bringing more rain, moves through the region on Saturday.

"Temperatures Sunday morning will be in the 60s with some 50s in the northern parts of the area," Marquez said. "And that will be ahead of some dry days to start next week."
