More than 400 walkers and runners filled Indian Rocks Beach early Friday evening for the fourth annual Walk Like MADD 5K Run.

The event raises money for the local chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

Organizers say, this year is the first that the run has surpassed it's goal of raising $35,000.

"This being the fourth year, it's never made it's $35,000 goal before, and we went over the goal this time," said Jo Newton, MADD. "So think it's really important to understand that all the money we raise stays in this community."

This year's event was dedicated in memory of Rob Lemon and Hilary Michalak.

The couple was riding a tandem bike along the Memorial Causeway a year ago when they were struck and killed by a drunk driver.

"I had no idea until I had a personal connection -- how much is involved with what the families have to go through," said Lesa Phillips, Clearwater Police Officer. "The court process in trying to get justice for their loved ones. There's a lot things people need during those trying times and MADD really steps in the fulfill those needs."

Officials say the money raised stays in the Bay area to help MADD assist families of drunk driving victims.
