A major event rolled through downtown Tampa on Sunday.

Cyclovia closed Kennedy Boulevard today as bicyclists took to the street.

Orginally started in Bogota, Colombia, Cyclovia (Spanish for "cycle path") temporarily closes major city streets to car traffic and converts them into safe and open, car-free environments for families to run, bike, play and be well together, according to event officials.

The event featured bicycle/pedestrian safety training, a bike rodeo for kids, helmet fitting stations, interactive street games, food trucks, "slow" bike races, bicycle decorating stations and live music.

Orlando hosted its first Cyclovia in April and Tampa had it's turn today. Talks have already started to include more local cities.

Karen Kress, the Director of Transportation and Planning with Tampa Downtown Partnership, said the event is a chance for the public to experience Kennedy Boulevard like never before.

"Everything's happening in the street,” said Kress. “You're opportunity to stand in the middle of Kennedy Boulevard and not get run over."
