Unionized employees of Hernando County who thought they were getting a raise will have to wait at least a while for an increase.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, county officials told nearly 300 employees who are union members their raises are in limbo.

Early last week, 348 of the 523 county workers were told a recent pay study conducted to update job descriptions would result in them getting a pay increase. But by midweek, more than half of them learned they'll have to wait because of a dispute between Teamsters business agent John Sholtes and county management.

Sholtes claims the county should not have granted any increases without bringing the union to the table to negotiate over wages, benefits and conditions of employment, according to the Times.

County officials say the increases aren't actually pay raises, they're adjustments based on job descriptions and experience, and therefore aren't subject to negotiation.
