The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office has been awarded a $47,960 grant by State Farm Insurance to put on a program that targets distracted teen driving.

The sheriff's School Resource Officers Unit, along with Students Against Destructive Decisions, were awarded the grant by the State Farm Youth Advisory Board. A program called Targeted Response Against Distracted Drivers, or TRADD, is being developed to educate teens on the fatal realities of distracted or impaired driving.

Once development is complete, the program will be implemented at six Pinellas County High Schools at which the sheriff’s office has school resource officers deployed. It's expected to launch in early 2015.
