There are some new birds on Beach Drive in St. Petersburg but you’ll have to go on a bird quest to find just where they are located.

The Warblesons’ St. Pete Adventure: Birds on Beach is the brain child of Northside Christian High School senior Molly Doyle. She got the idea while on a family trip to Greenville, South Carolina.

“[Greenville Boy Scouts] had done a project with bronze mice all over the city to inspire people to explore it and give a little history about it and I thought it would look great on Beach Drive,” said Molly Doyle.

The high school student worked with family, friends and artist Donna Gordon to come up with eight brass birds to be placed at different sponsored locations throughout downtown St. Petersburg. Each bird has a story that ties in with the rich history of its sponsor business. But the trick to finding the birds lies within the clues.

“[The birds] have a little bit of the personality of the sponsor building where they’re located. Beatrice is in a jewelry store and she loves looking at the jewelry,” said Doyle.

The free bird quest allows participants to explore downtown and learn a little history along the way.

Molly hopes the idea of Birds on Beach will inspire others to take the time to look around with they visit the city.
