A new youth development park is coming to the Springhill Park Community Center in Tampa's Sulphur Springs neighborhood.

The Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation is working closely with the city on this project. Leaders say the goal is to help at-risk youth.

"We just want to give these kids a chance," said Steve Salem, the president of the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation. "We work with Boys and Girls Clubs. We work with parks and rec centers. We work with inner city schools. The people who care about these kids, there's so many people who care about these kids, and yet they continue to be left behind."

The park will also host education programs for young people.

Work gets underway in March, and it will be ready by summer of next year.

In addition to the new turf, the field with have new dugouts, a relocated scoreboard and bleachers.
