A woman who is 34-weeks pregnant is still in a coma after being hit by a tow truck last week while crossing the street.

St. Petersburg police say Jenny Quiles was walking just west of a crosswalk when a tow truck turned during a yellow light and hit her. Her husband, Angel, says she was walking to a doctor’s appointment when she got hit.

"My heart stopped, pretty much my world dropped," said Angel Quiles. "She was bleeding at that time in five different places in her brain."

Angel has been excited about getting ready for his first child: a baby girl. He recently bought the baby clothes and Friday watched a sonogram, all while Jenny remains in a coma with traumatic brain injuries.

Quiles says he prays as his wife and unborn baby fight for their lives.

"I tell my wife everything’s OK,” said Quiles.

Quiles says he and Jenny got married last year, then had a ceremony this year. That’s when Angel found out his wife was expecting.

Now, Quiles says they’re waiting until Jenny is at least 37 weeks before performing a C-section.

“We’re trying to give Jenny at least enough time to recover from the trauma that she’s in now," said Quiles. "I tell the baby I’m getting ready for you just give me a chance."

Quiles hopes he and Jenny can experience the birth of baby together. The baby’s name will be Angel Noemi, after mom and dad.

"We’re praying, everybody’s praying," he said.

St. Petersburg Police say charges are still pending in this case.
