When David Jolly won March’s special election for the 13th congressional district seat vacated by the late C.W. Bill Young, he knew he would be running again in November’s general election.

Jolly’s narrow win over Democrat Alex Sink (48 percent to 46 percent) set the stage for this run, although a repeat of a close decision is unlikely.

Jolly, 41, a former lobbyist and ex-aide to Young, faces Libertarian Lucas Overby – the same third-party candidate who garnered a little less than five percent of the vote during the special election.

Ed Jany, who has no party affiliation, also appears on the ballot but has dropped out of the race.

Jolly has spent his first few months in office continuing his campaign promises of fighting Obamacare and addressing flood insurance premiums.

Jolly has been one of few Republican lawmakers to support same-sex marriage.

Overby, 28, supports less government, cutting federal spending and alteration of the current tax code.

“If I do my job between now and Election Day,” Jolly said earlier this year, “November will take care of itself.”

The 13th district includes an area from Dunedin to western and northern St. Petersburg.
