A Northeast High School football player who lost his leg after an injury is getting help from his school and the community.

Senior Leshawn Williams' coaches and teammates have rallied behind him, and now others have offered to donate a prosthetic leg and physical therapy free of charge.

Williams continues to recover at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg. The lineman’s right leg had to be removed from just above the knee as a result of an injury during last Friday's game.

Williams' teammates say they’ve spent a lot of the time at his bedside.

"I went and stayed down there till about 11 last night," said friend and teammate Devin Bowers. "He looked at me and said, 'Bro, push me hard.'"

Williams didn’t have to ask his fellow Vikings twice.

"In front of Leshawn all we're going to be is positive," head coach Jeremy Frioud said. "Get back on your feet. Because i know that he has the character, he has the mental toughness to get through this and be running again one day."

The senior will be also be getting some help from someone who knows what it’s like to lose a limb, and carry on.  Steve Chamberland with the organization, ’50 legs,’ will be providing Leshawn a free prosthetic, and offering up his advice.

"It's not going to be perfect," Chamberland said. "He just lost his leg. There's nothing perfect about that. It's what he does now, as a man. Staying positive, being active, getting his leg, and getting in as shape as he can with his new leg."

Williams’ friends say they have no doubt he will achieve his goal, as long as they’re there to cheer him on.

"He's going to be the same person," Bowers said. "We still going to hang out, we're still going to fight for the front seat. Still going to play basketball. Run and throwing the ball across the court. I believe it, you know."

The team has set up a fundraiser page online for Leshawn’s recovery, and they’ve already raised more than $4,000.  They also plan to honor Leshawn during their upcoming Senior Night football game.

Ireland Nugent, the little girl who lost her legs during a lawn mower accident, is also expected to be there.
