A 46-year-old man accused of killing his wife overnight in St. Pete was arrested this morning near Bunnell in Flagler County.

Darryl Warren was taken into custody around 6 a.m. He was located by Flagler County deputies after he had car problems and was taken into custody without incident.

Authorities said he will be charged with first-degree murder in the death of Barbara Warren.

According to police, Barbara Warren, 57, was bludgeoned to death during an overnight domestic dispute at their home at 3033 Melrose Avenue S.

Police said they received a call from a Department of Corrections probation officer just before 2 a.m. The probation officer said he'd received a call from a relative of Darryl Warren saying Warren said he had killed his wife.

Police said the husband and wife were arguing around 1 a.m. when things turned violent.

Darryl Warren left the home before police arrived and made his way out of town.

Suspect recently released from prison

Warren was convicted of attempted murder and child abuse in 1993.

Officials said he stabbed his girlfriend at the time, Jackie Lovett, while she lay sleeping inside their St. Petersburg apartment. When Lovett's children tried to help, Warren stabbed her 10-year-old son, police said.

"I thought someone was hitting me in my back and actually he was stabbing me," said Lovett, who was stabbed 14 times.

Lovett said she never thought about Warren until Tuesday morning, when she turned on the television and saw his mugshot.

"I knew it was going to happen sooner or later," she said. "He never should have been let out."

Warren rwas released from prison in April, and in August, he married Barbara Wright.  The two shared the home on Melrose Avenue, where neighbors said they often saw Warren doing yard work and going to church with his wife.

"I thought he was just a regular guy, like everybody else," neighbor Karl Dean said.

Lovett said her heart goes out to Barbara Warren and her family.

"I feel so sorry for her and her family," she said. "She lost her life by someone that needed help and shouldn't have been out."
