St. Petersburg police have arrested a third suspect in connection with a 2012 home invasion and murder that left a 41-year-old man dead.

Christopher Eugene Roberson, 32, was arrested Friday on a warrant for first-degree murder in the shooting death of Richard L. Shaw.

Detectives said Roberson had been considered a suspect in the murder for a while, but that they were not able to arrest him until new information in the case was presented.

Two other suspects - Justin Hart, 23, and Charles C Stone, 30 - were arrested in 2012 and have already been charged. Police said a fourth suspect remains at large.

According to St. Petersburg police, officers responded to a home on Orpine Drive N shortly before 5 a.m. on June 19, 2012. When they arrived, they found that Shaw had been shot during a home invasion robbery.

Police said the four suspects, whose photos were captured on a home surveillance camera, had forced their way into the house, yelling "Police, police!"  Shaw was shot when he came out to confront them, police said.

Shaw was taken to Northside Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the home invasion resembled another incident that had taken place earlier that morning, when a couple said several armed suspects forced their way into their home, yelling "Police, police!" The armed suspects hit the man several times, then left the home with several items.

Police said the suspects who have been arrested for Shaw's murder have not been charged in the second home invasion, but they are considered suspects.

The investigation continues.
