Residents in one Bay area county woke up Tuesday morning to pink newspapers.

This was no mistake. Our partners at the Citrus County Chronicle did it to send a message.

These days Donna Toscano spends a lot of her time knitting scarves and hats. It's a type of therapy for her. She has been battling breast cancer for about a year and will never forget the day she found out she had it.

"At the end of the day I got in my car and sat there and cried, and after I had a good cry I got mad, really mad, and I said I'm going to fight this," she said.

Each stitch helps Donna and other cancer patients put up the fight. Donna gives the scarves and hats to those who lose their hair thanks to all the treatment like she did.

"It makes you feel better," she said.

Our partners at the Citrus County Chronicle are also fighting breast cancer so they put out a pink newspaper. Twenty-one thousands of the papers were printed. This all started back in 2010 and each year it is gaining in popularity.

Nancy Kennedy is a reporter with the Chronicle. She said they fill the pink paper with information and stories about people like Donna. It's a form of support and a way to raise awareness.

"Breast cancer is a horrible disease," she said. "We hate it. So that's why we care."

Donna is doing much better now. She says all the support from family and friends and even the pink paper, has been the difference maker.

"I've never fought so hard in my life," she said.
