The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office's has apologized to a man and his family after the man was falsely arrested based on a warrant that did not have the correct information.

The man was taken into custody early Saturday morning and was released on Monday when the error was realized and confirmed.

Sheriff Dawsy immediately ordered an internal affairs investigation to determine how the mistake occurred. 

Per state statute, now that the investigation is open, the sheriff’s office cannot release any details reference the incident until the investigation is over. 

However, one person has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
