Some veterans in Hernando County recently took part in a very special mission.

Carl Armor is 90 years old and lives in a retirement community. He doesn't get out much these days, but that wasn't the case on Tuesday.

Armor is one of seven Hernando County veterans who recently took a free ride in an old-school biplane. The mission is to basically say thank you for your service and add a little adventure to their lives.

"Yeah, it was really good," Armor said. "I enjoyed it."

The organization that supplies all the fun in called Ageless Aviation Dreams Foundation. They strap veterans like Armor and Bill Moharter into small planes and take them for rides.

Moharter said the last time he was in a biplane was a long time ago, in 1932.

"When they used to say, 'Whoooo, there's a plane up there,' " Moharter said.

Armor was shot during World War II and ended up being a POW for five months in Germany. He doesn't get excited very easily, but he'd go up in the plane again.

"Oh yeah, I would take another ride," he said.

A special day with a special mission that's designed to give the vets a thrill.

The employees at Salishan Gracious Retirement Living organized all the fun. They hope to do it again next year.
