Southeastern University has plans for its Lakeland campus - very big plans.

School officials approved a $25-million expansion this week that will bring new buildings, a parking garage and new sports facilities to the private, Christian-based liberal arts university.

Even as construction crews continue working on a new Health and Natural Sciences building, the university has more buildings on the drawing board.

One of the new buildings will house a student activities center while the new athletic facilities will feature a new, state-of-the-art track and field complex. A new business and education facility is also in the works.

The school, which has seen its enrollment rise from 2,500 in 2011 to its current 3,400, is looking to lure even more students.

"In fact, I will tell you the students that are the most excited are the ones that have already graduated," said Dr. Brian Carroll, the school Vice President. "Our alumni are calling me up left and right, (asking) why didn't you do this when I was here? Why did you wait till we were already gone? So it is very exciting."

The school unveiled a $7.5-million football stadium last year for its SEU Fire football program. The new parking garage, which will be constructed near the football stadium, will have 300 spaces.

Carroll said the school is on a definite upward trajectory and expects enrollment to approach 4,200 students by the fall of 2015.
