Lots of us woke up with quite a chill Wednesday.

Its days like this, some are happy to have a job inside. But what if you're stuck outside working, on the open water? Just ask Sea-trial captain Bruce Gorman.

When the beaches are bare, Gorman’s still out in the bay and Gulf waters, at the wheel.

Gorman tests semi-custom boats built by Intrepid Powerboats in Largo.

"We beat on them a little bit, make sure they are well built so that the customer gets a good quality product," said Gorman.

Most days it's the dream job. It’s not as fun when the temps dip below 50, like they did Wednesday morning.

"Try to eliminate as much skin exposed as possible," Gorman said, zipping up another jacket. "This boat will hit 60 miles-per-hour, then the wind chill really gets cold!"

Bruce layers up and puts their boats to the test. A big part of his line of work is making sure boats are ready for all kinds of weather conditions.

"Rain, shine, hurricanes, wind; it doesn't matter,” said Gorman, “we take them out and so what we got to do."

That means even in some of the choppiest water.

"Makes for really rough conditions and maneuvering the boat in and out of that can be challenging,” he said.

Still, he said he'll take the cold weather over an office job any day.

"Any day I'm on the water it's a plus. I get to see manatees and dolphins,” he said.

You also can’t beat the view of the afternoon sun shining on the water.

"It doesn't get too much better than this,” said Gorman.
