A Polk County teen won a spot to march in a national band for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Andrew Sallee, 17, attends Polk State Collegiate High School on the Winter Haven campus. Sallee said because his school doesn't have a band, he auditioned through YouTube for the Macy's Great American Marching Band.

"I went into it thinking that there was a high chance that I wouldn't get in because there are people auditioning from all over the country," he said. "I had no idea how many people would be auditioning and just the fact that I got selected is a big honor."

Sallee will be playing the marching baritone and left on Saturday for New York City to practice with other student musicians from across the country. They're scheduled to perform the Taylor Swift song “Shake It Off” and Bruno Mars’ “Locked Out of Heaven.”
