The man who was carjacked outside his Clearwater home Friday is still recovering this weekend.

Todd Laufenberg got in a fight Friday, but it's certainly not a fight he thought was coming.

“Unbelievably, couldn’t believe it was happening really,” he said.

Surveillance video taken outside Laufenberg’s home Friday shows him opening his truck door and then starting it before attempting to head off to work.

In the background, there’s a man on the sidewalk.

Laufenberg eventually walks to the end of the driveway to pick up his newspaper, and that’s when the man who was on the sidewalk jumps in Laufenberg’s front seat.

The two fight, the suspect takes off, and Laufenberg is eventually thrown from the vehicle.

“It’s incredible," he said. "This is a really good neighborhood. Actually it’s kind of surprising. Nothing’s that surprising anymore."

Deputies later caught up to 22-year-old Oren Wickberg when he crashed the truck in Gibsonton.

“I didn’t think there was much doubt they were going to catch him," Laufenberg said. "He wasn’t real bright.”

A day later Laufenberg said the bumps and bruises are a reminder to let the suspect steal the truck next time. Of course he’s hoping there isn’t a next time.

Laufenberg isn’t sure what condition his truck is in.

Wickberg is charged with carjacking, grand theft of a motor vehicle, burglary, and leaving the scene of an accident. He has numerous prior arrests in Pinellas County.
