Two dozen members of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Bradenton have spent hours cutting, sewing and tying beautiful fabric into one-of-a kind quilts for community members in need.

When the quilting ladies come together, there is nothing but laughs and giggles.

“We know how to get along well,” said quilter and church member Virginia Duttarer.

It’s a good thing they get along so well. The ladies have spent hours together making hundreds of quilts every year for the past decade. They all have their own roll in the process.

“Some of the ladies cut the pieces, and some of us sew them together,” said Duttarer.

Carolyn Wilson loves to do the cutting.

“I just go around it with this wheel this way,” said Wilson.

It takes about two days to complete a quilt. So far the ladies have made 225. Each one will be given to a family in need, right before the holidays.

“It makes me very thankful that I am able to help a little bit," Wilson said. "I know it’s needed.”

On Sunday their beautiful, colorful, quilts were draped and displayed on the church pews for everyone to enjoy.

“We hope that it conveys all of the love and the compassion that we put together and feel when were putting these quilts together,” saod quilter Jan Witte.

Over the past 10 years the ladies have made and given away over 1,000 quilts.
