A one-of-a-kind assisted living facility is being built in Manatee County.

Instead of bricks being laid down block by block, the new Comfort Cove senior care facility in Bradenton is made up of modular units.

In just one week, the building on 14th Street West went from just a foundation to a two-story, 52-bed facility. Nearly 40 modular units are being used to form the unique structure.

BSV Holdings, a Weston Real Estate investment company, is behind the project.

"We’ve built this in about five and a half days," said Brent Crego, the Managing Director of Comfort Cove. "It took us about three years to do the design."

Crego said the factor builds the units, which are then delivered to the site by a trailer and unloaded using a crane.

"It’s about 33 percent faster than normal construction," he said.

The new Comfort Cove facility may become a model for other senior centers around the country.

It’s the first of two modular senior care facilities being built in Manatee County and 14 statewide.

"The building is 65 percent complete and the bedrooms and bathrooms are complete," said Crego. "All we have to do is finish off the common areas, the kitchen and then the hallways. Then the building will be complete and ready to be moved into."

The new senior care facility is set to open Jan. 31. When it does, it will employ around 50 people.

Officials say the new facility is hurricane proof.
