If the heavy rains weren't enough to cause concerns, a clogged pipe is adding to a flooding problem in the Riverview area.

There is heavy flooding along McMullen Loop near Rice Creek.

Significant flooding remains on McMullen Loop, which remains closed at Park Drive. Part of the road has been washed away.

Residents of about 190 homes are being advised to boil their water as a precautionary measure.

County officials said the problems started Tuesday afternoon when a drainage pipe under the road became clogged with silt. Instead of flood waters going under the road in the pipe, the water rushed over the road, causing the partial collapse.

As crews scrambled to unplug the drainage pipe, a water main broke, adding even more flooding to the area. The water main was repaired by early Wednesday morning.

Traffic officials said the road may not reopen until late Wednesday.

“Right now, they are exposing the drainage pipe that now has some debris in it now from the water main break and also from the debris that was brought in by the rain yesterday,” said Michelle Van Dyke, with Hillsborough County. “They are also operating a pump to pump down the water, so what they’re trying to do is get the water down off the road as much as possible so they can expose the road to see how much damage they have to fix."

Crews still need to unclog the drainage pipe. And all of this work has to be done in knee deep water.

How quickly the emergency road work will get done depends on how quickly the flood waters drain off.
