A 28-year-old Auburndale woman was struck by a pickup truck and killed as she walked along a highway Wednesday night, authorities said.
Around 10:15 p.m., Robin O'Keefe was walking east along U.S. 92 west of Howard Road in Auburndale when she was hit by an eastbound white Ford F-150.
The driver of the pickup, 57-year-old William Brant of Lakeland, immediately stopped and rendered aid. Other motorists also assisted, but O'Keefe died at the scene, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said.
Authorities said they did not suspect Brant of being impaired or distracted and no charges were filed. But an investigation is continuing.
