The Hudson cemetery located off U.S. 19 has a lot of history when it comes to veterans.

Some of the veterans that are buried at the cemetery fought the Spanish-American War. Others were in the Civil War, which is why organizers felt that it is only fitting to participate in the annual event and express appreciation.

More than 40 veterans are buried in the Hudson Cemetery, each one of them received a wreath honoring their services.

The American Legion Riders Hudson Post 335, decided to stay local this year and honor those veterans during the annual Wreaths Across America Event.

Brown Star recipient and Vietnam vet Austin Melly believes this ceremony is a much needed thank you.

"I think it’s overdue, it should have been done years ago," said Melly.

Organizers plan to make this local event annual.

The wreaths were donated to the American Legion Riders Hudson Post 335.
