A group of old school car enthusiasts in Hernando County are doing their part for a special cause.

Over 100 classic cars filled the parking lot of the Weeki Wachee Village Shopping Center on Sunday. The car show was held to benefit abused, adoptable and foster children through Youth and Family Alternatives of Pasco-Hernando.

Vincent Speakman showed up with his Trans Am to support Youth and Family Alternatives.

Car owners donated money, unwrapped toys and more.

"Make sure they wake up Christmas morning feeling as happy as we do helping them," Speakman said.

The benefit car show focused on helping children in Hernando and Citrus counties. Roseanne Testa, with Youth and Family Alternatives, said the kids they help have been through a lot, and all the toys will be put to good use.

"Some of them have been abused for many, many years before DCF had gotten involved," Testa said.

Larry Pettigrew helped organize the event. He was adopted, so all the support hits close to home.

"I've got two brothers," Pettigrew said. "One I've seen one time. The other I have never seen and I'm 73 years old."

A cool and classic event with a holidays spin, that will end up making a lot of kids smile.

Youth and Family Alternatives help kids in several different counties around the state.
