A regional transportation planning board has agreed to support two routes that would fill a gap in the Hernando County portion of a proposed statewide coast-to-coast bicycle trail.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, the Hernando-Citrus Metropolitan Planning Organization agreed to back a route proposed by the Department of Transportation. The board also approved a study of an alternate route through Brooksville.

The gap is between the Suncoast Trail and the partly built Good Neighbor Trail. It will eventually run from downtown Brooksville to the Withlacoochee State Trail, about 9 miles to the east, the Times said.

Both proposed routes follow State Road 50 from the Suncoast to the S.R. 50 bypass.

The Coast to Coast Connector will eventually incorporate several trails to create a statewide connection between St. Petersburg and Titusville.
