Christmas came early for the felines at Big Cat Rescue in Tampa.

The tigers, lions and leopards pounced on their holiday-themed gifts Tuesday morning. The big cats were also given decorated trees to play with.

The sanctuary's officials said the treats not only give the cats a fun time, but they also provide the cats with mental stimulation. Some of the cats hide under the trees, others use the limbs to scratch their backs and many of them urinate on them to mark their territory.

The decorations and wrapped presents were put together by Big Cat Rescue's volunteers on the Enrichment Committee.

The sanctuary aims to provide a permanent home for abused and abandoned exotic cats. Currently the sanctuary is home to more than 100 big cats.
