A homicide investigation is underway after police said the bodies of two men were found in a Plant City residence.

According to the Plant City Police Department, officers responded to a house in the 200 block of S. Johnson Street shortly before 2 a.m. to investigate a call about a possible burglary in progress.

When they arrived, they found the bodies of the two men. Police have not yet identified the men, pending the notification of next of kin.

Police spokesman Al Van Duyne said the murders weren't random, and that community shouldn't worry.

"As far as the community goes, the community is not in any danger," he said.

Even so, neighbor Henry Johnson said he is horrified by the deaths.

"It's very disturbing knowing it's this close to you," he said.

Johnson said the house had been vacant for the past few months.

"It's been vacant for several months," he said. "Used to be a church and then it was a social club. The first part of the year it was closed down. It's been vacant, to my knowledge, for the past 5 or 6 months."

Police said they are exploring some leads in the murders, but they are working with limited information right now.
