A Bay area serviceman is using his passion for music to serve his country.

Army specialist Rory Ellis Garcia has written the song, "Soon Enough." It tells the story of a soldier who is marking off the days on his calendar until he can come home.

Ellis, from New Port Richey, has served in Afghanistan, but he came up with the song before he ever the left the country.

"I heard this little boy ask his mom when daddy is going to be home and she said to him, soon enough son, soon enough," Ellis said.

Those words stuck.

Now, Ellis said he's surprised at all the attention the song has received.

"One of the coolest things, when I played it in Afghanistan people who didn't know the song -- hearing it for the first time, a lot of them didn't even speak English," Ellis said. "They were different workers in dining facilities over there and they were singing along to the song. I had a bunch of soldiers come up, a few girls were in tears."

Ellis has written many songs, but he said this one has resonated with the most people.

More than 15,000 people have checked out the song on YouTube. Ellis hopes the song can become a part of the Wounded Warrior Project.

He currently plays it at different military events.

Ellis is currently stationed in Fort Stewart, Georgia.
