Seven people were injured after lightning struck a car in a parking lot near Raymond James Stadium following Sunday's Tampa Bay Buccaneers game, officials said.

None of the injuries appeared to be serious, Tampa Fire Rescue spokesman Jason Penny said. The strike kicked up rocks and gravel and knocked a few people down when it hit around 4 p.m.

“We were in the east side parking lot over in the old mall lot area, and we were doing some post tailgating, and the rain started coming in and all of sudden we heard and saw the lightning strike at the same time, so as a Floridian, you know it’s pretty close," said Christopher Duran.

Bruce Kudick, of Sarasota, said the lightning appeared to hit the top of a car and "shattered the top" of it.

Tampa Fire Rescue officials said seven people were transported to St. Joseph's Hospital, and another four or five people went to the hospital on their own.

One person was reportedly unconscious but came to by the time paramedics arrived.

The ages of those injured range from 20 years old to 70 years old.

"It is reported that the patients experienced an indirect lightning strike and that some were knocked to the ground," said Jason Penny, public information officer for Tampa Fire Rescue. "There were no other injuries reported and, thankfully, no fatalities."
