The driver of a minivan had to be extracted by rescue personnel after a two-vehicle crash on Gandy Boulevard early Wednesday.
The crash happened around 7:45 a.m. on the eastbound lane of Gandy just west of the Gandy Bridge and caused a major backup into Tampa during the morning rush hour.
A blue minivan turned onto its side, and the female driver had to be removed from the vehicle by crews. She was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, apparently with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.
The driver of the second vehicle was treated at the scene.
The crash is under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
