Firefighters who responded to a fire at a Tampa thrift store rescued a cat that was suffering from smoke inhalation.

The fire apparently broke out in the attic of C & E Thrift Store, which is located at 12104 Nebraska Ave.

When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames showing through the roof. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to that part of the strip mall and they quickly put it out.

Firefighters found the cat in Dan's Sports, which was located next door to the thrift store, and administered oxygen to the cat.

Dan's Sports was not damaged by fire, but it had sustained smoke damage.

Nebraska Avenue is closed in both directions between 120th and 122nd Avenue.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
