An employee of a Hillsborough County health clinic has a confirmed case of Legionnaires' disease.

Health officials have not released much information about the person for privacy reasons, but they said the patient is being treated at home by a doctor.

Health officials also said the health department was informed Tuesday about the case, and that other employees at the clinic are now being tested.

Legionnaires' disease is a severe form of pneumonia that is usually caused by infection from a bacteria known as legionella. If not treated, the disease can be fatal.

The disease is not spread from person-to-person contact, but through inhalation of aerosolized water or soil contaminated with the bacteria.
