Some Pinellas County drivers say they are tired of seeing construction at a major intersection in Largo.

Just as one construction project ends near the intersection of Bryan Dairy and Starkey roads, three more begin in the same spot.

Longtime Pinellas County resident Chuck Domzalski wants to know when the construction is going to end. First Bryan Dairy Road was widened, and then the Starkey widening began.

Domzalski said he wants to see some progress on the construction work.

"It seems to be progressing in starts and fits and stops and it's just frustrating as can be," he said.

The traffic stacks up both north and southbound on Starkey Road into the intersection.  While workers were present when Bay News 9 crews went to film the area, there wasn't a lot happening.

Pinellas County Traffic Engineer Tom Washburn said there's more going on with those construction projects than meets the eye.

"We've actually had three over the past several years," he said. "One was a drainage project in the northwest corner of the intersection that actually crossed Starkey Road. That was in preparation of the six-laning of Bryan Dairy."

The upgrades to the intersection are a separate project. Those started in 2009, then were canceled due to a lack of funding when the economy crashed.  That project has since been restarted.

As for the lack of active workers at the construction site, much of what's happening right now involves moving utilities: pipes, sewers, electric and fiber optic lines. Some of the work is visible, while other work happens away from the intersection.

The Starkey project is on schedule, and according to county officials, should be complete by Christmas.
