A new state-of-the-art apartment complex is being built near Florida Polytechnic University in Lakeland.

The complex will house 550 units and will be along Long Lake Circle, near State Road 33.

Developers said the complex could be home to incoming students at the university.

The $44 million project will give residents a pool, hiking trails, a waterfront view and several other amenities.

The best part, developers say it will be affordable with rent ranging from $575 to $1175 a month.

“We only have 200 beds on campus so I think it’s going to make a great impact,” said Florida Poly Enrollment Services Executive Director Scott Rhodes.

As the student population grows at Florida Poly, Rhodes says they’ll need more housing.

“We are expecting 600 students next fall,” said Rhodes. “We’re hoping to build another building here on campus with maybe 300 to 400 beds but that will not accommodate all 650 for next fall.”

Developers are set to break ground in 2015.

Officials from Florida Poly say other developments are also going up near the school and they welcome any additional housing to the area.
