Lakeland Linder Regional Airport is hoping to attract new business.

Airport officials have commissioned a $150,000 study to figure out just what would make the most sense, according to The Ledger of Lakeland.

Linder doesn't have regularly scheduled commercial passenger service, but many smaller jets and airplanes use the airport, and there are many aviation-related businesses located there.

The airport owns large hangars and other buildings that it leases to businesses. Those buildings are close to capacity.

Airport Director Gene Conrad says the study will examine ideas such as extending a rail line to handle air freight services. He says recruiting new business may actually help the existing businesses.

The study should be ready for review by some time next year.
