An area of low pressure in the central Atlantic Ocean became the second tropical depression of the hurricane season Monday.

The system is no threat to Florida and is expected to weaken to a remnant low by Thursday near the Lesser Antilles.

According to Bay News 9 meteorologist Juli Marquez, the depression's maximum sustained winds early Tuesday are near 35 mph.

Some weakening is expected by Wednesday night and the depression is expected to degenerate into a trough of low pressure in two to three days.

The system is located about 900 miles east of the Lesser Antilles and moving west at about 17 mph.
