Lanes of the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway will be closed for several hours at a time during the coming days for driverless car testing.

The expressway, which connects downtown Tampa to Brandon, is an approved testing site where researchers can study the safety and performance of automated vehicles.

The Selmon's reversible lanes will be closed Sunday night during nonpeak hours and again on Monday for demonstrations.

According to partner newspaper the Tampa Bay Times, Florida is one of three states that allow self-driving cars to be tested on public roads.

Audi's latest model, the Sport Quatro Laserlight, will be the vehicle tested.
