Two men driving a stolen car were killed in a crash within the Garden of Memories cemetery in east Tampa, police said.

Around 3:40 a.m., officers arrived at the scene of a single-car crash at 46th Street and E Lake Avenue. They found a black Honda Civic badly mangled, and the two occupants, Willie Boyd III, 20, and Algernon Belin Jr., 28, both of Tampa, dead.

Detectives said they believe the vehicle, which had been reported stolen from the Hollywood Nights club earlier in the evening, had been involved in a "shots fired" call in the 3700 block of Lowry Court. Witnesses had reported seeing a black Honda Civic speeding away from the shooting scene.

The driver lost control of the car and crashed a short distance away. Investigators weren't sure which man was driving the car, police said.

E. Lake Avenue was closed between 40th and 50th streets were closed for several hours.
