Service men and women were honored Saturday with live music, a poker run and a lot of thank you’s from the community.

Bikers filled the Largo Wing House’s parking lot for the Heart Strings For Heroes Fundraiser. It was an event to honor service men and women who serve our country and communities.

“We bring the community together with bands and this is a perfect opportunity to honor our heroes,” said Wade Sabourin the President of the Heart Strings For Heroes Foundation.

The proceeds from the event will go to the Hear Strings For Heroes Foundation. They provide guitars for service men and women who have been injured in the line of duty.

“It conquers depression," said Sabourin. "It helps with their physical injuries to learn their motor functions back with a guitar.”

Among those honored Saturday was Pinellas County Deputy Troy Savetz.

“It’s a great feeling knowing so many people care,” said Savetz.

Back in April Deputy Savetz saved a suicidal man’s life by physically stopping him from jumping from the Bay Pines Bridge. That man later thanked Deputy Savetz for pulling him down.

“When I transported him to the hospital we had a chance to actually talk, you know, about his problems which I think helped him out a lot,” said Savetz.

Hundreds of others thanked the local heros, including 12-year-old Heather Rohn.

“It was amazing actually being able to meet a hero in person,” said Rohn.

She gave him a stone and a letter she wrote.

“It meant a lot. I am going to frame it in a shadow box with the pendent she gave me,” said Savetz.
