A man was killed and his daughter was injured after a plane crashed on a beach in Venice on Sunday.

According to officials, the pilot of the 1972 Piper Cherokee, 57-year-old Karl Kokomoor, of Englewood, reported the plane was in distress around 2:45 p.m. and could not make it back to the airport. He attempted to land on the beach.

Ommy Irizarry, 36, and his daughter, 9-year-old Oceana, were hit by the plane while walking on the beach.

"The dad looked very bad," said witness Zack Arceneaux. "They were performing CPR on him he had blood on his face. It looked like he wasn't breathing at all."

Ommy Irizarry died and daughter Oceana was airlifted to All Children's Hospital. She is believed to be in critical condition. They were both from Georgia.

Kokomoor and his passenger, 60-year-old David Theen, of Englewood, were rescued from the plane and were uninjured.
