Veterans have always been important to David Lindsay. Lindsay is a member of several organizations that help out veterans, such as AMVets and the VFW. His concern for veterans’ welfare led him to create the Veterans Thrift Store at the Oldsmar Flea Market.

“Their service was for us to even sit here and have this conversation,” Lindsay said. “So our service to them is to keep them comfortable, keep them fed, and there should never be such a thing as a homeless veteran.”

All the proceeds from sales at the thrift store support Liberty Manor, a transitional housing facility for homeless veterans. And once veterans get back on their feet, the thrift store is there for them, too.

“When we have a veteran graduate out of the program or move to self-sufficiency, he could come to the thrift store and say, ‘I need that couch, that TV, and this and that.’ We load it, we set it up and it’s at no cost to him,” Lindsay said.
